What sets it off Disconnection. The Enthusiast descends when the relational bond feels at risk, when a room goes cold, when a conflict has no visible resolution, or when they suspect they are valued for the energy they supply rather than for who they are.
The energy goes up and the substance goes down.
The Enthusiast fills the silence, amplifies the story, and works the room harder. Every gap gets a joke in it. They are not being dishonest. They are managing an anxiety they may not have named, and the tool they reach for is the one they are best at.
What it costs The performance succeeds and the person disappears behind it. The Enthusiast becomes the most visible and least known person in the room, which deepens exactly the isolation driving the behavior.
The hard thing gets reframed until it no longer has to be faced.
Charm turns into management. The Enthusiast redirects, softens, and finds the angle that makes the difficult conversation unnecessary, sometimes with a formula or a slogan standing in where a real solution belongs. Under enough pressure they will start assigning blame elsewhere, because the alternative is holding it.
What it costs Problems get postponed rather than solved, and the people around them stop trusting the reassurance. Warmth that consistently precedes avoidance eventually stops reading as warmth.

The Enthusiast leaves (the job, the church, the friendship) often abruptly and often with a story about how constricting it had become. Underneath the story is a conviction they may never say out loud: that they were never actually wanted, only enjoyed, and that leaving first is cheaper than being left.
What it costs A gift built to bind people together produces a life of unfinished relationships, each ended just before it could be tested.
